Lucknow May 30. Indian federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) today organised a Webinar on ‘Hindi journalism: Future and its Challenges’ on the occasion of Hindi Patrakarita Diwas. All speakers were of the view that while the media as a whole is passing through the economic recession, Hindi media like others has also been very badly hit during the Corona time. Hundreds of media houses have pulled down their shutters and thousands of employees have either lost their jobs or their wages have been drastically reduced.
The latest issue of the Hindi monthly ‘Media Manch’ being published from Lucknow for the last twenty-two years was also released on this day. The IFWJ Vice President Hemant Tiwari told that the Media Manch is distinct from other newspapers and magazines because it is not brought out by any industrial house but by a dedicated journalist T B Singh. The magazine is closely associated with the problems of the public. In the present issue itself, it has highlighted the difficulties and problems of the migrant workers. Tiwari said that the IFWJ is the only organisation of journalists, which has organised three Webinars in the month of May. The first was on International Labour Day, the second was on May 3 to celebrate the World Journalism Day and this is the 3rd in the series when have assembled to rededicate ourselves for the cause of Hindi journalism. Speaking on the occasion Senior journalist Rajeev Ojha said that Hindi has very big reach as it is one of the three big languages of the world.
Its market is expanding very rapidly and hopefully, the new generation will pull the Hindi journalism out of the economic crisis that it is facing today.
IFWJ Vice President KM Jha deplored that many media houses have been using the Corona as a pretext to retrench the employees and thereby adding their difficulties and sufferings. The editor of the Hindi daily Aaj Samaj, Ajay Shuka said that Hindi journalism will become strong by espousing the truth and maintaining its credibility. The editor of Dainik Bhaskar in Mumbai Vijay Singh said that the role of Hindi journalism in Corona time has been excellent and praiseworthy and it has not only scotched the rumours spread by social media but also-provided correct information to the public, which has been appreciated by everybody. Devkinandan Mishra of Rashtriya Sahara said that it is an undeniable fact that now journalism has become a force to reckon with and nobody can ignore it. Gone are the days when the politicians and authorities used to conceal their misdeeds by showering favours on the select media houses and persons but now it is very difficult to manage it, thanks to the phenomenal growth of the digital media.
MS Kanchan Srivastava who has been associated with many Hindi and English newspapers and magazines said that the economic aspect of Hindi journalism has always been weak even before the Corona. She said that it has been a tragedy that Hindi journalists have been paid less than others despite their better performance. This must be changed to ensure the quality and credibility of Hindi journalism. IFWJ Secretary Siddharth Kalhans, hosted the Webinar and threw light on the significance of the Hindi Patrakarita Diwas to remember the sacrifices of our ancestors, who encouraged us to firmly work in the service of Hindi journalism. The editor of Kaimur Times, Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi, who has been raising the issues of Adivasis through his magazine congratulated everybody on the Hindi Patrakarita Diwas. Shri Chaturvedi has been working for the development of Hindi journalism from various international fora.
IFWJ Secretary-General Parmanand Pandey said that the scope and acceptability of Hindi journalism are growing day by day.
He said that we must be obliged to non-Hindi speaking journalists like Baba Vishnu Rao Paradkar, Rajaram Khadilkar,
Laxminarayan Garde and Vidyabhaskar etc. who shaped Hindi journalism in its initial years. Among others who participated in the Webinar was Dada Hemant Shukla, Rajesh Mishra, Santosh Gupta, Ck Pandey, Mikul Mishra, Sudhanshu Kumar (Bihar) and
