KOVID 19: IFWJ Appeals Media to Keep Rumours at Bay

New Delhi, March 31. Indian Federation of Working Journalist (IFWJ) has appealed to journalists of all streams not to circulate any unverified news particularly when the country is in the midst of the war against KOVID 19. Journalists must do every bit to dispel the rumours, which is mostly spread and echoed through social media. The IFWJ President BV Mallikarjunaih and the Vice-President Hemant Tiwari has requested the media persons not to fall prey to whispers and hearsays, which are flowing thick and fast in this extremely difficult time. Media persons must avoid circulating and commenting on such news, which have not been crosschecked by them. Needless to say that fake news items create an atmosphere of fear and anarchy in society,

therefore, adherence to objectivity must be followed to save the credibility of the profession.
The IFWJ has also requested the Central government as well as all the State governments to provide full safety and adequate  insurance cover to the journalists, who working in the field. The IFWJ has expressed satisfaction that, by and large, media’s conduct in India has been highly ethical and responsible barring a few, who have failed to come up to the rigours of the profession. Being the fourth estate media is expected to keep the public morale high to win against this invisible pandemic.
IFWJ is fully aware of the fact that the media particularly the print medium is passing through the worst ever crisis, therefore, it is incumbent upon the governments, media houses to ensure that no employee is rendered jobless.

CORONVIRUS: IFWJ Suggests for Video Media Conferences

New Delhi, 24 March. Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) has asked all the media houses and the governments to ensure that media persons and their families do not have to face any difficulty during 21 days lockdown period while performing their duties. The IFWJ has also appealed to the people to stay in their houses to defeat the deadly pandemic of CORONVIRUS.

In a statement, the IFWJ President BV Mallikarjunaih and the Vice-president Hemant Tiwari has suggested that the authorities must avoid the physical presence of media persons in the conferences as the same can be addressed by video conferencing. It has also been observed that the sitting arrangements for the media persons in the studios and offices of most of the TV channels and newspapers are not as per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which prescribes for a distance of nearly two meters between one person and another. Both leaders of the IFWJ have said that ‘it is the responsibility of the media houses that thorough hygienic arrangements are made in the offices for the safety and security of all employees'.

The IFWJ has drawn the attention of the Prime Minister towards the problems which are being faced by the media persons in the sincere performance of their duties. Since the media persons are doing the national and social service, therefore, they should not be burdened with the day-to-day tensions of their family members. All necessary items must be ensured to be delivered at their houses because they hardly get the time to attend to the needs of their families. The IFWJ has also demanded that government and media houses must provide extra monetary and material incentives to media persons, who remain engaged to their duties at a huge personal risk.

CAJU Decries the Decision to Close ‘Australian Associated Press’ News Agency

Confederation of Asian Journalists Union (CAJU) and the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) have expressed shock and dismay over the decision to close down the prestigious news agency Australian Associated Press (AAP) from June this year after uninterrupted service of 85 years. It has established many milestones of excellent journalism in the world. With the closure of Australian Associated Press hundreds of journalists and non-journalists’ employees, would be rendered jobless.

In a joint statement,  Muditha Kariyakarawana, the President of the Confederation of Asian Journalists Union, who is also the President of Sri Lanka Press Association (SLPA) and the Secretary-General of the CAJU and the IFWJ, Parmanand Pandey has sent a letter of solidarity to the employees of  the  AAP and exhorted them to fight for saving the news agency and in case that is not possible the proprietors should be compelled to pay adequate compensation as cushion money  so that they can start their life afresh.

It may be noted here that this prestigious news agency is owned by Keith Murdoch, who is the son of Media Mughal, the late Rupert Murdoch, considered as the predator of many media houses across the globe and he started. This News Agency has been providing uninterrupted services from 1935. It is believed that AAP has been running into a loss for some time as a major chunk of advertisements have been grabbed by global digital giants ‘Google’ and ‘Facebook’.

The closure of Australian Associated Press (AAP), said Mr Kariyakarawana and Pandey, is a grim reminder to most of the print medium outlets, particularly of developing countries, to go for the diversification to other modes of media so that the jobs of not only existing employees of the newspapers and News agencies be saved but new jobs could be created for the young generation of journalists.

आरोपी पत्रकारों के खिलाफ खबर क्यों छिपाते हैं अखबार?

- अमर उजाला का ऋषिकेश ब्यूरो प्रभारी रंगदारी में गिरफ्तार
- अक्सर मुख्यधारा का मीडिया इस जिम्मेदारी से बच जाता है

ऋषिकेश पुलिस ने कल अमर उजाला के एक पत्रकार महेंद्र यादव को गिरफ्तार किया। वह रंगदारी मांगने के आरोप में फरार था। पुलिस ने भी उसे वीआईपी ट्रीटमेंट दिया और जब अदालत में इस्तागासा डाला गया तो ही केस दर्ज किया। मैं पत्रकार के दोषी या निर्दोष होने की बात पर नहीं जा रहा। हो सकता है कि उसे फंसाया गया हो। लेकिन यदि कोई आरोपी है तो एक समान व्यवहार होना चाहिए। इस मामले में मुख्यधारा के अखबार चुप्पी साध लेते हैं।

ऐसा ही एक उदाहरण मेरे साथ भी हुआ। 2015 की बात है। मैं सहारा में गढ़गांव-कुमाऊं प्रभारी के तौर पर काम कर रहा था। सूत्रों के मुताबिक हमारे अखबार का अल्मोड़ा का एक साथी दिल्ली से आए सहारा के एक बड़े अधिकारी को खुश करने के लिए देह व्यापार में लिप्त एक नाबालिग लड़की को लेकर देहरादून आ रहा था। उसकी किस्मत खराब थी कि हल्द्वानी बस अड्डे पर लड़की को पुलिस ने पकड़ लिया। साथ में महाशय भी धरे गए। मेरे तत्कालीन संपादक ने मुझे आदेश दिए कि खबर नहीं जाएगी, लेकिन मैं ठहरा विद्रोही। मैंने तान कर तीन कॉलम खबर लगा दी, बकायदा एक जगह नाम भी दे दिया।
फिर क्या था दूसरे दिन हंगामा ही हंगामा। फिर जैसा कि होता ही था मुझे संपादक जी ने एक और शो कॉज लेटर जारी कर दिया। इससे भी मजेदार बात यह है कि उन दिनों हमें सहारा में सैलरी नहीं मिल रही थी, लेकिन उक्त महाशय जी को जेल से बाहर आते ही 75 हजार रुपये की तुरंत अदायगी कर दी गई। साफ है कि बिना मिलीभगत के कुछ नहीं होता। हो सकता है कि महेंद्र अपने किसी अधिकारी के लिए वसूली कर रहा हो, या ऐ भी हो सकता है कि बेकसूर हो।
एक ओर उदाहरण है, सीएम हरीश रावत का स्टिंग हुआ था। शाम की मिटिंग में ब्यूरो के रिपोर्टर और डेस्क इंचार्ज की बैठक में तय होता है कि कौन सी खबर पेज वन पर जाएगी। स्टिंग बड़ा मामला था। बैठक में ब्यूरो के रिपोर्टर ने कहा, स्टिंग संदिग्ध पत्रकार ने किया है, झूठा है, इसलिए इस खबर को भीतर के पेजों में दें, लेकिन मैंने विरोध किया कि खबर पेज वन की है। संपादक जी में डिसिजन पावर की कमी थी तो सिंगल कॉलम पेज वन पर देकर बाकी खबर शेष बन गई। खबरों की इतनी महान समझ और पक्षपात करने वाले वही रिपोर्टर आज संपादक का काम संभाल रहे हैं। मेरा कहने का अर्थ यह है कि खबर-खबर होती है। उसे छापना या दिखाना चाहिए।

एचटी मीडिया प्रबंधन ने माननीय पंजाब एंड हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट चंडीगढ़ में मुंह की खाई

मोहाली लेबर कोर्ट में हार का मुंह देख, एच टी मीडिया प्रबंधन ने माननीय पंजाब एंड हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट (चंडीगढ़) का रुख किया सोचा वहां केस को खारिज करवा देंगे। प्रबंधन ने पंजाब एंड हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट के सबसे महंगा वकील अक्षय भान को उतारा। परंतु वहां भी पैसा पानी की तरह बहाने के बाद निराशा ही हाथ लगी। माननीय जज साहब ने फैसला दिया कि केस का निर्णय मोहाली लेबर कोर्ट में ही होगा और अब माननीय सुप्रीम कोर्ट के आदेश के  अनुसार मोहाली लेबर कोर्ट छह महीने के अंदर आर्डर करने के लिए बाध्य है। माननीय पंजाब एंड हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट का आर्डर साथ attach है

अब मौजूदा हालात यह हैं कि लेबर कोर्ट (मोहाली) में एचटी मीडिया प्रबंधन का वकील तारीख पे तारीख ले रहा है। पर लगता है कि माननीय पंजाब एंड हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट (चंडीगढ़) में मुंह की खाने के बाद लेबर कोर्ट (मोहाली) में भी पटखनी लगने वाली है।

एक पीड़ित पत्रकार की प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के नाम खुली पाती...

हम सबके आदरणीय प्रधान मंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी जी के बारे में एक बात बड़ी मशहूर है कि वह अपने किसी फैसले से कभी पीछे नहीं हटते... लेकिन चूंकि वह अभी सोशल मीडिया से दूरी बनाने की केवल सोच रहे हैं, इसलिए वह दूर हो ही जाएंगे, फिलहाल कह पाना आसान नहीं है!

वैसे मैं स्वागत करूंगा, बशर्ते वह सोशल मीडिया से हमेशा के लिए हट जाएं... कारण कि इस सोशल मीडिया की व्यस्तता के चलते उन्हें इस बात का पता करने का वक्त ही नहीं मिलता कि असल मीडिया में आखिर चल क्या रहा है ? अंदर के ही पन्नों पर सही, पर अखबार में अब भी कुछ ऐसी खबरें प्रमुखता पा जाती हैं, जो हमारी आत्मा को झिंझोड़ सकती हैं... लेकिन इसीलिए या फिर कारण कुछ और होगा, आईफोन से खेलने वाले हमारे मोदी जी को अखबार की सुर्खियों पर दृष्टि डालने के बजाय अखबार के मालिकों पर कृपादृष्टि बरसाने में ज्यादा रुचि जान पड़ती है !!

इसमें दो राय नहीं कि आपकी राष्ट्रवादी नीतियों के लिए भारतवर्ष सदैव आपका ऋणी रहेगा प्रधान मंत्री जी, पर इस बात के लिए आपको कोसा भी हमेशा जाएगा कि नए रोजगार का सृजन करने में आपकी सरकार जितनी विफल रही है, उससे कहीं ज्यादा उसे नौकरी से निकलवाने में सफलता मिली है... जी हां, आम नागरिक यदि लगी-लगाई नौकरियां गंवा रहे हैं तो इसीलिए, क्योंकि झटके में अपने कर्मचारियों को संस्थान से बाहर का रास्ता दिखा रहे मालिकों के हाथ की कठपुतली बन गए हैं आप...

ऐसे में इमरान खान और बाजवा तो आपके नाम से खौफ खा रहे हैं, पर कोई अग्रवाल-गुप्ता-गोयल-कोठारी-गोयनका-भरतिया-माहेश्वरी-जैन-दर्डा-शिंगोटे वगैरह आपसे बिल्कुल नहीं डरता है ! आपकी सरकार को यह जानने में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं है कि भारत सरकार की अधिसूचना और माननीय सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा मोहर लगाने के बावजूद अखबार के मालिकों ने अभी तक अपने कर्मचारियों को मजीठिया अवार्ड से लाभान्वित क्यों नहीं किया है ?

अगर सोशल मीडिया से हटने के बाद समय मिलने लगे तो इस बारे में पता कीजिएगा जरूर... सुप्रीम कोर्ट के आदेश का मखौल उड़ा रहे अखबार मालिकों को भी आप कानून का पालन करने के लिए बाध्य नहीं कर पाए तो हम यही समझेंगे कि स्वयं को उपकृत करवाने की ही खातिर आपकी सरकार ने आंखें मूंद रखी हैं... ऐसे में प्रिंट मीडिया, खासकर हम पत्रकारों-गैर पत्रकारों का इतिहास कभी आपको माफ नहीं कर पाएगा... मैं तो बिल्कुल भी नहीं !
