IFWJ Condemns Physical Assault on Arnab Goswami

New Delhi, 23 April. Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) has strongly condemned the attack on well-known journalist Arnab Goswami in Mumbai last midnight. Goswami has earned the reputation of being an acerbic and outspoken journalist. One can agree or disagree with him, but no one can ignore him. He is credited to have coined many new words in Indian journalism like ‘tukde tukde gang’ and ‘Lutyens’ Media’.

He has the unique capacity to simultaneously take on many persons in the window of his channel. He has emerged as a brand of journalism as he never feels shorts of words in speaking spade a spade. It is because of these reasons that he is loved and loathed with the same intensity by those who like and dislike him.

In a statement, the IFWJ Secretary-General Parmanand Pandey has demanded that Maharashtra government must thoroughly probe into the incident so as to bring the culprits to book. Attack on Goswami, or for that matter on any journalists, is intolerable as it amounts to an attack on the freedom of speech and expression, which must be resisted by every section of the
society with all its might and main.
