Newspaper Employees organised a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar


New Delhi, 10 Oct.; The Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Employees Orgnisations today organised a massive demonstration at Jantar Mantar here to protest against the proposed  abrogation of the Working Journalists Act. Hundreds of media employees asked the government to amend the Working Journalists Act so as to include the employees of electronic and web media.

Media employees are also agitated over the proposed repealing of the Working Journalists Act and subsumimg it with 13 other disparate Acts which are different from the Working Journalists Act as chalk from cheese. All major media trade unions. All India Newspaper Employees Federation, Indian Federation of Working Journalists, National Federation of Newspaper Employees, All India Federation of PTI Employees Unions, National Union of Journalists (I), Indian Journalists Union, UNI Workers Union.

The national  congregation of media persons was addressed by the Confederation's General Secretary M.S. Yadav, Hemant Tiwari, Parmanand Pandey (IFWJ) Ashok Malik, Pragyanand Choudhury (NUJ-I), Sabina Inderjit, S N SINHA (IJU), Shyam Babu (NFNE) and Bhuwan Chaubey (PTI).

All speakers warned the government that if the Working Journalists Act, which has been validated by the Supreme Court  many times, is tampered or tweaked, then the Confederation would be compelled to launch a bigger All-India struggle.
