Representation to the Chairman and the Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour

Subject:  Representation to the Chairman and the Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour

Dear Comrade,

ञ्‍--We hope that you are aware of the that the Government of India has contemplated to repeal the Working Journalists Act and subsume it with other 11 Acts. All Acts will be the part of the ‘Occupational Safety, Heath and Working Conditions Code’. We have opposed it tooth and nail and have met with the Hon’ble Minister at least two times for retaining the Working Journalists Act. We have also sent a representation to the Chairman and the Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour. Presently the committee is headed by Shri Bhartruhari Mahtab, a Member of Parliament from Odisha.

In case you have to express any opinion about it, kindly let us know immediately so that we can discuss the same in the executive body of the Confederation of Newspapers and News Agencies Employees Organisation. As you know that we have also staged a massive demonstration at Jantar on 10 October 2019 for the retention of the Working Journalists Act. We have to be prepared for a long struggle to keep the Act intact.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Parmanand Pandey

Secretary-General, IFWJ
