The bench consisting of Chief Justice J.S. Khehar, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul today declined the request for early hearing of the Majithia Wage Boards case. The Chief Justice said that more pressing cases were pending therefore the request for advancing the hearing of the Majithia case could not be conceded.
Advocate Parmanand Pandey first went to the bench
of Justice Ranjan Gogoi and mentioned for the early hearing but Justice Gogoi
asked him to go to the court of the Chief Justice as per the new procedure of
the Registry, decisions in such matters could be taken only by the CJI.
It may be noted here that the last hearing of the
Majithia Wage Board case was on 10.01.2017 before the bench of Justice Gogoi
and Ashok Bhushan. The bench had then passed the order for further hearing on
17.01.2017. However, the case has not been listed even after more than three
months’ have passed.
The newspaper employees who have filed their cases
of contempt against the proprietors are feeling frustrated over this delay by
the judiciary. Shri Pandey also pointed out to the Chief Justice that thousands
of newspapers employees across the country have been are looking towards the
Hon’ble Supreme Court with very high hopes of getting justice but the delay was
distressing. Shri Pandey has decided to again mention the case to draw the
attention of the Chief Justice over pathetic plight of the newspaper employees.
